What Does Sustainable Textiles refer to?

Sustainable textiles is defined as fabrics that are designed, produced, marketed and sold in most sustainable or renewable way possible. Sustainable textiles are produced from eco-friendly resources and crops. When we purchase clothing we are making an impact on the environment, for better or for worse.  As we now realize sustainability is the key to a cleaner future it is imperative to make better choices for ourselves and the planet.

Three points to look for in Sustainable Textiles and sustainable fashion:

1. Textiles and Farming

From organic cotton to ethical farming practices, sustainable brands place an emphasis on not just sourcing their textiles in a responsible way, they’ll actively work with partners who avoid using pesticides and chemicals that could actively damage the ecosystems where the materials are grown.

2. Water Use

Water scarcity a concern, and many crops used for clothing require an immense amount of water. When sourcing sustainable textiles look out for fabrics that are made from sustainable crops.

3. Waste and Garment Recycling

Buying clothes made from deadstock, purchasing second hand clothing, or buying up cycled garments are all ways we can reduce waste.
